Something Blue in a Charleston Garden With You
Vendor Spotlight | We Do! Charleston | February 2nd, 2020
Vision
This luxury editorial garden wedding was planned by Haley Guthrie & Baylye Burnette of We Do! Charleston. We Do! is a newly launched wedding planning and design company located in Charleston, South Carolina. The Governor Thomas Bennett House , circa 1825, is a historic Charleston house that exemplifies a true Southern vignette of old world sophistication. For this reason, this grand house was the perfect backdrop for We Do! Charleston’s branding debut! Scroll down for all the dreamy details of this Charleston garden wedding..
Bridal Portraits Inside the Historic Governor Thomas Bennett House
Roadside The day began with the bride getting her hair and makeup professionally done by Contours and Curls. Once the bride’s Essence of Australia’s dress from the Gown Boutique of Charleston was zipped, she was crowned with a Emma Katzka tiara. Bridal portraits were then taken inside the stately home. Notable interior features of the house include the Palladian window alcove and a cantilevered staircase in the grand foyer. This staircase is one of the only two found in the entire city of Charleston.
Roadside Blooms crafted unique floral jewelry necklaces and bracelets for the bridal party. Bloom-filled pocket squares dressed up the groom and his groomsmen’s Michael Kors suits from Charleston Tuxedo. The bridesmaids wore dresses in various shades of lavender and plum from Bella Bridesmaids.
Springtime Garden Wedding Ceremony
The wedding ceremony was held on the main back lawn opposing a pineapple fountain. Transparent ghost chairs added modern lines while simultaneously blending into the grounds. Roadside Blooms created a floral archway sprouted with natural woody textures and pastel blossoms that served as the ceremony’s backdrop. To introduce We Do!’s branding elements into the day, double-sided program fans were die cut in the outline of the couple’s “WD” monogram.
The exterior of the property had so many enchanting characteristics. For instance, there was a large piazza overlooking manicured lawns, gardens full of seasonal plantings, with the highlight being a 200 year old oak tree! Because of this, there were multiple locations for newlywed photographs!
Cocktail Hour On The Patio
As they exited the ceremony, guests were ushered into the cocktail hour on the oyster tabby. In the courtyard there was a beautiful handmade bar from the French Eclectic. It was framed with “W” and “D” marquee lights supplied by Alpha Lit Charleston. In addition to the couple’s signature drink, a white cosmopolitan, Lawler Beverage Co. poured an impressive champagne tower. Various sweet and savory hors d’oeuvres from Thurston Southern Catering were displayed nearby on an antique sideboard.
Guests were further lured into the inviting cocktail space with velvet lounge furniture furnished by The French Eclectic and the display of the scrumptious wedding cake by Dessert Designs by Gisela. Surrounding the cake were pale blue cakesicles and sugar cookies stamped with “We Do”.
Luxury Detailed Wedding Reception & Exit
At the entrance to the garden reception, a white backdrop from Somethin Good held the seating chart. This brought in both We Do’s blue color palette and contemporary lines. Two handmade rectangular pine farm tables stood end-to end. Overhead was a wooden arbor adored with capiz chandeliers and greenery.
Roadside Blooms created what looked like a wild spring garden covering the tables. There were potted plants nestled on top of a table runner made out of greenery. Clear glass salad plates, decorated with rose quartz flower, and herb cuttings, sat atop white napkins embroidered with blue “WD” monograms. Handmade calliagraphied place cards were tied to the stems of pink goblets using hand dyed gray silk ribbon. In addition, prism pillar candle holders were placed throughout the florals and greenery to catch the light and reflect the pastel color scheme.
“WD” monogram motifs were prevalent throughout this event. Besides the programs and napkins, the monogram was used on the dance floor decal, the wedding invitations, and the welcome bags for traveling guests. As a fitting finale to this luxurious wedding, Lowcountry Valet provided a 1950 dove gray Packard getaway car. As the jubilant newlywed couple drove away, you got a glimpse of the hand lettered banner reading “it was always you!” adorning the rear of the vehicle.
