Elegant Equestrian Wedding at Middleton Place
Thomas and Bethany’s elegant equestrian wedding at Middleton Place was one for the books! I love photographing smaller weddings like these, because the day is typically so calm and peaceful, and the couple is looking to declare their love in front of a few family members and friends, keeping the wedding day very intimate and stress-free!
Middleton Place
Middleton Place is a stunning property located about 15 miles northwest of downtown Charleston. Its mossy oaks, ponds, landscaped gardens, and wildlife collection make it truly unique as a wedding venue. Although there are many amazing features on the property, one thing that makes Middleton Place exceptionally unique is its stable yard complete with grazing horses and sheep. This scenery takes you straight to the English countryside, where this wedding inspiration was born.
Equestrian Influence
Planner and wedding designer, Britt Jones, researched old Ralph Lauren ads to find a few images of inspiration that served as a jumping-off point for this equestrian-style wedding. Inspired by the horses, the architecture of the old Middleton home, and mossy tones and textures, each element was crafted from there to bring to life the vision you see today. Soft pinks, subtle reds, browns, and blacks were used throughout the design to bring these ideas out of the ad and into a tangible form that translated to a unique wedding at Middleton Place.
The bride wore two dresses for her wedding day, one stunning lace and tulle gown by Marchesa and the other a sleek bow-back gown by Sarah Seven. A petite bouquet by Colby West Designs and the bride’s tousled-updo served as the perfect compliments to both of these beautiful gowns.
Pre-wedding Engagement Session
Ahead of Thomas and Bethany's wedding at Middleton Place, we met up on Chalmer's Street located in the heart of downtown Charleston for an engagement session. To make their engagement experience unique, we rented a bicycle and filled the basket with everything for a dreamy picnic. From the horse-drawn carriages to the cobblestone streets, historic Charleston truly is straight out of a storybook. It’s the perfect location for a romantic engagement session before your big day!
